Sostenis Tandi Pasang: Calling for Sydney Ambassadors

Australia Awards scholar from Indonesia, Sostenis Tandi Pasang, is encouraging other scholars in Sydney to consider applying to become a ‘Sydney Ambassador’.  Sostenis (Sos) a School Principal from Papua is studying a Combined Master of Arts and Social Sciences at UNSW and recently commenced his role as a volunteer for the City of Sydney as a Sydney Ambassador.  Determined to get out there and become part of the ‘Sydney community’, Sos explained that the role of the Ambassador is to roam around key tourist areas of Sydney including Circular Quay, Queen Victoria Building and Darling Harbour, providing helpful advice as needed by visitors.  “I can’t stress enough, the value to Australia Awards scholars of throwing yourself into volunteering, you get far more from it than what you put in”, Sos states.

Describing his experiences to date as “awesome”, Sos also wants to remind Sydney-based scholars that the City of Sydney is continually looking for roaming ambassadors at Sydney landmarks and to volunteer at information kiosks.  In his other volunteering role at Sydney International airport, Sos provides information to arriving international students.  The International Student Welcome Desk is an initiative of Study NSW.
