Project Rationale:
The project is very important because dyslexia and other similar specific learning difficulties are beyond parents and teachers' comprehension. Dyslexia is not merely about language impairment, but also behaviour and executive function impairments. In many cases, dyslexia has comorbidities, like dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dispraxia, and ADD/ADHD. The prevalence of this learning disorder is 1:10 (there is approximately one dyslexic child in every ten children), ranging from mild to severe conditions. Parents and teachers are mostly not well informed about children’s developmental milestones and the symptoms of dyslexia are mostly overlooked and undetected. The children must show the signs in early years, but they are ignored. Unfortunately, the issue becomes more complicated when the children enter school and become involved in academic and social settings.
Project Beneficiaries:
The project will benefit parents and teachers who have very little or zero understanding of dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties, so that they can properly accommodate these children. The project will design specific parent and teacher training workshops to help students with dyslexia in both academic and daily activities and life. It may involve 100 parents, and 100 teachers in separate classes.
