An Electrical Engineer who Saves Sea Turtles
Although born in Central Java, Dr. Moeljono Widjaja hasn’t completed any of his formal tertiary studies in Indonesia.
“After I graduated from high school, I was awarded an Indonesian Government scholarship to study in the United States,” Moeljono said. “Both my undergraduate and master’s degrees in electrical engineering were international ones.”
As a child growing up in Semarang, Moeljono was inspired by Professor B. J. Habibie, a renowned Indonesian aerospace engineer and technology advocate, as well as Indonesia’s third president.
After four years study in Australia, Moeljono graduated from Monash University in 2002, with his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering.
“An Australia Award scholarship from Australian Government gave me a special opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. My Doctorate has been a great advantage for me, because my major day-to-day focus is on research and development.”
Moeljono is currently employed as a research engineer at an Indonesian Government research and development agency. His research interests are in the area of simulation and modelling.
In his limited spare time, Moeljono is interested in educating young people about the benefits of using Free Open-Source software in schools.
A nature lover, Moeljono is also as a keen environmental conservation advocate, serving as General Secretary of the Indonesian Sea Turtles Foundation.
