Project Rationale:
According to Directorate of Higher Education of Ministry of Education of the Republic Indonesia, there are seventy nine Undergraduate and Post Graduate Degree of International Relations Department of private and public universities in Indonesia teach "Gender in international relations" as main subject at international relations. It is among strategic compulsory subject of students. However, students are hard to find updated textbook on gender in international relations. The issues of gender in international relations are growing very fast. The book for example did not cover the role of women in international terrorism by the Islamic State, and other strategic issues. Professor Katrina Lee-Koo, Reader of International Relations and Deputy Director of Monash Center for Gender, Peace and Security Monash University Australia, also agreed that gender in international relations is challenged by the fast dynamic of strategic issues in international relations in the latest decade. Therefore, the most updated text-book of gender in international relations from Indonesian and Australian perspective will fill the gap of the subject in Indonesia and Australia.
Project Description:
The project facilitates scholars of international relations, especially focusing on gender, from Indonesia and Australia to publish a textbook entitled "Gender and International Relations: Indonesian and Australian Perspectives." The book publication is based on international workshop scheduled on 22-24 October 2018 in Bandung participated by 38 fellows of Gender and International Relations Caucus of Indonesian Association of International Relations and a Keynote Speaker, Professor Katrina Lee-Koo, Reader of International Relations and Deputy Director of Center of Gender, Peace and Security Monash University Australia. Professor Katrina will write an introduction of the book and coediting the book publication. Other Austraian scholars expertise on gender and international relations are invited to join the book publication and to participate in international workshop. Overall process will end on the end of February 2019, when the book is published by Indonesian publisher and delivered to all authors, universities and stakeholders in Indonesia and Australia.
Exchanges of ideas and thought on gender and international relations among Indonesian and Australian scholars will strengthen diplomatic and academic relations between the two countries. The topic is strategic and urgent to fill the gap of issues of gender in international relations and social sciences in Indonesia and Australia.
Project Beneficiaries:
50 particpants of the workshops and Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs of Department of International Relations from 31 universities from Indonesia and Australian representing the international workshop and book publication.
